Itasca Automation Systems is the North America distributor for TPC Technology Products Company. TPC has been manufacturing winders for nearly 30 years based out of Slovakia. TPC has a range of small winders like the ERN 22 up to large free standing machines. The bench top winders can handle from 50 awg to 5 awg wire.

The TPC Winders offer two different types of controls. The touch screen control is shown here. They also offer the G version control which has a built in keyboard for programming. The winders also have different options in wire guides as well as tension heads.

Itasca is a exclusive distributor for these winders and I think it will be a good idea to allow our potential customer to go to the website for more details on the ERN winders.

Design and Construction

The ERN Series Winders provide precise tension control, high-speed winding, and efficient material handling. Here is an overview of the design and construction of the ERN Series Winders:

Frame and Structure

The winder’s frame uses sturdy materials such as steel or aluminum to ensure stability and support during high-speed winding operations. It minimizes vibrations and provides a rigid structure for precise winding. The frame may also incorporate a modular design for easy assembly, maintenance, and scalability.

Winding Mechanism

The winding mechanism consists of several key components:

Spindle System: The spindle system holds the core or spool on which the material is wound. It usually consists of multiple single spindle arranged in a circular or linear configuration. The spindles can be independently driven or coupled through a standard drive system.

Tension Control: The ERN Series Winders employ advanced tension control systems to ensure uniform winding. These systems use sensors and feedback mechanisms to monitor and adjust the tension throughout the winding process. This helps in preventing material breakage or deformation.

Traverse Mechanism: A traverse mechanism moves the winding material back and forth across the width of the spool, ensuring even distribution and avoiding overlap or gaps. An electric motor or a pneumatic system can drives this mechanism.

Drive System

The ERN Series Winders utilize precise, high-performance drive systems to achieve the required winding speed and accuracy. The drive system typically includes servo motors or variable frequency drives (VFDs) that control the rotational speed of the spindles and traverse mechanism. These drives are connected to a central control system for synchronized operation.

Control System

The control system comprises hardware and software components and is integral to the ERN Series Winders. The control system allows operators to set and adjust winding parameters such as tension, speed, pitch, and traverse width. It also incorporates safety features and diagnostics to monitor the winding process, detect faults, and provide alerts or automatic shutdown if necessary.

Operator Interface

The winders are equipped with a user-friendly operator interface, which may include a touchscreen or a control panel with intuitive controls. This interface enables operators to monitor and control the winding process, access diagnostic information, and adjust as required.

Material Handling

The ERN Series Winders often incorporate material handling features such as automatic spool loading and unloading systems to facilitate efficient winding. These systems can include robotic arms, conveyors, or other mechanisms to handle different sizes and weights of spools. Material tension sensors and detectors may also be included to ensure proper material feeding.

Safety Features

Safety is a crucial aspect of the design and construction of the winders. Emergency stop buttons, safety interlocks, and guards are installed to protect operators from potential hazards. The control system may also include safety protocols to prevent overloading, overheating, or other critical conditions.

Key Features and Functions

The ERN Series Winders offer advanced features and functions contributing to wind turbines’ effective operation and maintenance. Let’s explore the key features and functions of the ERN Series Winders.

Adjustable Speed Control: Flexibility in speed control is a vital feature of winders used in wind turbine maintenance. The ERN Series Winders offers adjustable speed control, allowing technicians to operate at varying speeds based on specific requirements. This feature facilitates delicate winding procedures and ensures accurate positioning of cables, resulting in improved overall performance and longevity of the wind turbine.

User-Friendly Interface: The ERN Series Winders have user-friendly interfaces to simplify operations and maximize productivity. These interfaces provide intuitive controls and easy-to-understand displays, enabling technicians to navigate different settings and configurations effortlessly. The user-friendly design reduces the learning curve and enhances operational efficiency.

Easy Maintenance: The ERN Series Winders’ modular design facilitates easy maintenance and upgrades. The components are easily accessible, and the modular structure allows quick replacements and repairs, minimizing downtime. This design also enables scalability, ensuring that the winders can adapt to future technological advancements and changing maintenance requirements.
